Santa Rita
Home of endemics birds
Located in the heart of the Central Andes near Salento, the Santa Rita Nature Reserve represents a landmark in Colombian habitat restoration. Formerly a traditional cattle ranch, this expansive territory is undergoing a profound ecological transition, returning once-cleared pastures to a thriving high-altitude sanctuary.
Known as an “aquatic reserve” due to its intricate network of rivers and cascading waterfalls, Santa Rita offers a diverse altitudinal gradient that supports a high concentration of Colombian endemics. Our expeditions through the reserve provide premier opportunities to document sought-after species, including a vibrant array of Tanagers, Toucanets, and Parrots, as well as specialized Andean hummingbirds.
