The Serranía del Perijá, nestled in the northern most reaches of the Colombian Andes, is a stunning mountainous region that straddles the border with Venezuela. This biodiversity hotspot is home to an astonishing array of approximately 450 bird species, with opportunities to spot at least 180 of them on any given excursion.

The region’s high degree of endemism makes it a birder’s paradise, boasting unique species found nowhere else on Earth, such as the vibran Painted Parakeet.

Day 0: Arrival to Valledupar

Arrival in Valledupar, where participants will meet the tour guides and receive a briefing about the itinerary. Time to rest and prepare for the birding adventure in the Perijá mountains.

Day 1: Birding “Los Tananeos” Nature reserve.

Early morning departure to Los Tananeos Nature Reserve to explore its rich birdlife. This area offers excellent opportunities to observe endemic and regional species in well-preserved habitats.

Day 2: Birding Medium Elevations.

We will explore the mid-elevation forests of the Perijá range, searching for a variety of colorful and unique bird species that inhabit these transitional ecosystems.

Day 3: Birding Paramo Sabana Rubia.

Today we visit the high-altitude páramo ecosystem at Sabana Rubia, home to specialized bird species adapted to the cool climate and open landscapes.

Day 4: Birding the way down.

As we descend through different elevations, we will stop at strategic locations to observe a wide diversity of birds across changing habitats.

Day 5: Birding Perijá Foothills.

Birding in the foothills of the Perijá mountains, where tropical forests host many lowland and foothill bird species in a scenic natural setting.

Day 6: Birding Perijá Foothils – Departure

Final morning of birdwatching in the foothills before returning to Valledupar and concluding the tour.

Bookings, payments and cancellations policies

For questions and bookings please contact our team via email or WhatsApp (+57 3160834407). A $200 USD deposit per person is required to confirm your booking. This deposit will be deducted from the total tour cost once the minimum group size of two people is reached. If the minimum group size is not met, your deposit will be refunded, minus a small fee to cover bank charges.

Note: We recommend waiting to book your flights until you receive official confirmation from Pajareros Birding Tours that the minimum group size has been met and your tour is confirmed.

Following confirmation of your booking by Pajareros Birding Tours, the full payment for the tour must be made before 60 days of the tour’s start date. Payment can be made via bank transfer or through a provided payment link.

If you need to cancel your tour, please notify us as soon as possible. For cancellations made more than 60 days before departure, a full refund, minus a small processing fee, will be issued. Cancellations made between 59 and 30 days prior to departure will incur a 30% fee. For cancellations within 30 days of departure, a 40% fee, plus any applicable bank fees, will be charged. For Cancellations within 15 days of departure, a 70% fee, plus any aplicable bank fees, will be charged.

Note: It is possible that due to unforeseen circumstances or weather conditions, we may need to make adjustments to the itinerary or guide. We will always strive to maintain the original itinerary as closely as possible, but flexibility is key to a successful birding tour.
