With years of experience exploring and documenting Colombia’s rich ecosystems, he specializes in target endemic species, bioacoustics, and high-quality field logistics. As the founder of Pajareros Birding Tours, Jorge combines scientific rigor with an engaging, personalized guiding style to deliver unforgettable birding and photography experiences.

• Favorite Bird: It’s hard for me to find just one favorite birds, but I would say that I have an special like for the Tanagers and the Mountain Birds. Two of my absolute favorites are the Buff-banded Mountain Tanager and the Purplish-mantled Tanager.

• Favorite Ecosystem: While I love being at the high-altitude cloud forests and watching all those mix-species flocks in the Andes, San Cipriano holds a very special place in my heart and remains my favorite location in Colombia.

• Favorite Bird: It’s hard to pick just one, but the Black-and-chestnut Eagle is my favorite. As a top predator, it acts as a vital umbrella species—protecting its mountain habitat automatically helps save entire ecosystems, local communities, and hundreds of other native species.

• Favorite Ecosystem: The páramo is my favorite ecosystem because these high-mountain ‘islands’ are home to unique endemic species and out-of-this-world landscapes. The cold, fog, and extreme conditions have shaped animals and plants that are perfectly adapted to live in these complex natural networks.
