{Hacienda el bosque}

The journey from Manizales to Hacienda El Bosque is much more than a simple transit; it is a dramatic ascent through the vertical ecosystems of the Central Andes. As we leave the city, the landscape transforms from urban coffee-region architecture into the misty, emerald green of the high-altitude cloud forests.

Upon arrival at the hacienda, our immersion begins with a 1 km introductory walk toward the heart of the reserve. This gentle trek serves as the perfect transition into the high-altitude ecosystem, allowing your eyes to adjust to the light and your ears to tune into the morning chorus of the Andes.

Once we have ascended the gentle slopes, we enter the core birding area of the hacienda. This is where the magic happens for both enthusiasts and professionals. We will focus our efforts on the expertly maintained feeders and forest trails, which are strategically designed to bring the most elusive high-altitude species into clear view.

We will have breakfast in the middle of the morning.

As the 5-hour immersion draws to a close, we will take lunch and we begin our return trek, but the birding doesn’t stop until we reach the vehicle. The late morning light often brings a different perspective to the trails, revealing species that prefer the warming temperatures of the canopy.
